Ugh. Worked today. Collapsed, and then went to the all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet we frequent because we like it and because it is compellingly cheap. Intended to treadmill, but watched this week's Amazing Race and a few Good Eats episodes instead. Then passed out until 0100. Ugh.

So Julia Child is dead, and the kitchens of the world are a little bit colder now. In her memory, I have returned to my original concept of going through her cookbook "Baking with Julia"... project that got sidelined by a variety of factors including high blood sugars, and low carb fascinations. Last week's project was the Danish Twist, made with a sort-of puff pastry recipe that involved a lot of margerine and then a whole bunch of rolling out, folding, and putting back in the fridge. The whole thing took about a week, and absolutely mystified one girl I spoke with, who observed that it would have taken about 5 minutes to go to the store and get an Entemann's.

The miraculous Danish Twist--with only a slight dehiscence in the middle.

The confectioner's cream was made with non-fat half & half, and the apricot filling was cheated by liquifying apricot jam in the microwave. All in all, not a bad result, although I wound up getting about 1/2 a piece. Oh well--certainly don't need the extra weight.

Anyway, for today I got a call from M & D on their way back that they hadn't eaten yet, so a frantic bit of cooking on my part yielded some miso eggplant and some quesodillas made with leftover oven kalua pork, low fat swiss cheese, and low-carb tortillas. The eggplant went over ok, but M complained about the low-carb tortillas which she said tasted like cardboard. This mentality is likely the reason why her blood sugar hovers around 200...

Tired today. I hate working everyday. Actually I hate working anyday.

I always think it's ironic that people who are fantastically overpaid are the same people who constantly wander around spouting platitudes like "I would do this for free." Conversely, the people who actually do the awful, disgusting, demeaning jobs that no one in their right mind would want to do, get paid virtually nothing. There is a moral in this, somewhere.

Blog-a-rama. This is the reason the web was created--so millions of people can dump the garbage out of their minds to fertilize the vast fields of cyberspace.

There is now almost an inner imperative to blog--as if you lack reality without stomping out your own space on the net.

Resistance is futile.
